Cardoon - Cynara Cardunculus

The Cardoon (Cynara cardunculus)

It’s interesting how we often use words to provide a deeper experience of the flowers that we see. Some of the words we use are purely descriptive (functional) however, in order to add a deeper dimension, some words/phrases attribute characteristics to plants in an almost anthropomorphic way. A word I often use in relation to the Cardoon is “imperious”. Why might I think it an appropriate descriptor for this plant?

“Imperious” – lordly, masterful, commanding, assertive, arrogant, haughty

Music: Max Richter: Spring (Vivaldi)

PS. Pic 2 in the gallery above is one of my favourite garden photos to date. I’ve named it “The jewel in the crown”
